Official Black Friday Website

Black Friday is something I’m proud to say I’ve never participated in.  Kind of the same as how I proclaim that I don’t view reality t.v. either.

I’m not suggesting there’s anything wrong with Black Friday or people who choose to participate, but I’m just not that much of a shopper.

On the one hand, my personal philosophy has always been, ‘It’s either your time or your money’.  And on the Friday after Thanksgiving, I’d rather choose to spend my early morning hours sleeping and getting up at a reasonable hour rather than in the middle of the night to get some great deal on whatever.

But that’s just me.  Apparently Black Friday has gotten so big that they’ve created a website to make sure everyone can see all the great deals available.

Wow!  Now that is something!   Here is the link to the site.

Well, all you professional bargain hunters, have a great time!  When I get up at a reasonable hour, I may think of the thousands who chose differently and may actually be getting back to bed after a few productive hours of shopping.

Will You Participate in Cyber Monday?

Here is a link to the Wikipedia information about Cyber Monday.

I felt it is fitting here to mention Cyber Monday, as it is the counterpart of Black Friday and this year, somewhat of Small Business Saturday.

In case you missed my posts from this past Friday and Saturday you can check them out.

Interesting to read that the term Cyber Monday originated in 2005, as it was mentioned in an article from Shop.org, part of the U.S. Trade Association.  There was a spike noticed in Internet orders placed on the Monday after Thanksgiving in 2004, leading some to believe it was due to some employees with access to computers and Internet at work.  Perhaps these people, having returned from the holiday weekend and observing all the ads or just doing some window shopping, now want to get down to it and ‘shop online’ from the comfort of the office.

Hmmm!  And when are these employees doing all this shopping online?

But, that is not my concern.  And how great for the economy to have tons of people anxious to spend their money, which in turn helps the economy!

So, how have you spent the weekend, shopping-wise?  Did you participate in Black Friday, Small Business Saturday or are you planning to ‘honor’ Cyber Monday?  After all… It really does help the economy!  Let us know.

Happy shopping!

Do You Participate in Black Friday?

Black Friday has become so insane, I recently heard of a store (one of the big box chain stores) opening at 3AM today with their deals.  Can you imagine?  I used to wonder who goes to these sales at these ridiculous hours?  Over the years I’ve met people who have and do.

Well, I’m all about getting a good price and even getting it on sale, but 3AM???  Not even 5AM would entice me.

But I guess everyone has their thing.  Maybe it’s the thrill of the deal, so it can be talked about and envied by others.

Perhaps I’m being too harsh.  Perhaps I just don’t know what motivates someone to get up, (or for the 3AM gig, not go to bed) and be at the glass door, nose pressed, waiting for the magic moment.

But for what?  The ensuing rush to whatever department caught your attention in the ads?  I just don’t get it!

I wonder if the stores end up reaping more profits because the people who are up for these deals, perhaps will spend more than they might have in a normal Holiday season.

Perhaps when people go Holiday shopping throughout the few weeks before, at a normal Holiday pace, and not the frenetic pace of Black Friday, people might be more in control of their budget for the Holidays.  Hmmm!!!

The other day on the radio, I actually heard a ‘money-talk guy’ giving some pointers to the listeners about how not to get caught up in the craze of the season.  It sounded like good sound advice, but in the thrill of the rush of Holiday shopping on Black Friday, I believe it will take a large amount of self-control to follow his advice.

How about you?  Do you participate in Black Friday?  What are some good deals you have gotten?  Was it worth the hassle?  Let us know.
