iPad 3?

For Wednesdays I’m always looking for what’s new on the tech scene, social media or the Internet.  Recently I found this article about the potential release of the iPad 3 toward the end of this week, in early March.

Will you buy an iPad 3 when they come out?  Sales of the original iPad and the iPad 2 are astronomical.  I’m not sure about the numbers, but I heard to the effect that not only does Apple have the largest share of the tablet market, but within Apple, the revenues are in large part due to this interesting and useful device.

A while back I shared that I personally, am all Apple:  iMac, iPhone and iPad.  I don’t have the latest version of any of these.  I think there are those followers of Apple who rush out with each iteration and purchase it.  I do not.  Last year I bought a new iPhone, after having the ‘original’ iPhone for three years.  At the time, there was a promotion for the iPhone 3G for $50 or I could have gotten the iPhone 4 for $200.  I didn’t feel there were enough features on the ’4′ to convince me to get it.  I will wait until the iPhone comes with 4G service before I consider upgrading.

As for the iPad, I don’t feel the need to change.  Maybe at some point, I will hear of a feature I just can’t live without… and I will buy.  Until then, I’m quite happy with my Apple products.  They look and perform great!

What about you?  Are you an Apple person?  What would make you upgrade or change to Apple if you are not now?

Her… Again!

The words in the title above, were said facetiously by Meryl Streep when she won the Oscar on Sunday evening for Best Actress for her role in Iron Lady.

What a gracious woman she appears to be.  Sure we don’t know what she’s really like, but don’t you just have a sense that she’s authentic, the real deal.

Here is a video of her speech, in case you missed it.

Personally, I’ve not yet seen it yet, but it is on my list of ‘must see’ movies.

This is truly success after 60!

7 Critical Legal Tips For Everyone

The information below came from the LegalShield Member newsletter I receive as part of my LegalShield membership.  I wanted to pass this along, since it’s worth checking.  You may want to create your own checklist and use some or all of these items.

I changed my title a bit to include everyone, since most of these things are good for everyone to do, even though most people associate it with something for people who are over a certain age.

Seven CRITICAL Legal Tips for Those Over 55

The following tips will help you prepare for the legal challenges involved in growing older. If you have questions or need assistance, your LegalShield provider law firm is ready to help.

  1. Prepare a will and estate plan so that upon your death your assets will pass exactly as you intend. Do you want a state law, rather than you, to decide who inherits your estate?
  2. Prepare a durable power of attorney so that someone you trust can make decisions on your behalf in the event you are unable to do so. Who do you want to handle your affairs if you are unable to?
  3. Prepare an advanced medical directive (living will) so that someone is empowered to make medical decisions on your behalf and in accordance with your wishes if you cannot. Do you want life support if you become totally and permanently incapacitated?
  4. Prepare retirement and disability plans so that your care upon retirement or disability is not left to chance. Is Social Security enough to sustain you?
  5. Review all private and governmental benefits to which you may be entitled, including life and health insurance, Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security, private pension and benefit plans to insure that you receive the maximum benefits to which you are entitled. Do you know all of the military, retirement and other benefits you are entitled to?
  6. Prepare a comprehensive summary of assets and benefits, including all bank accounts, savings accounts, CDs and other assets together with all benefits for which you are or may be eligible. Can your attorney in fact readily identify all of your assets and benefits?
  7. Prepare an Important Papers Packet containing vital documents and your comprehensive summary of assets and benefits. The packet should include copies of your Social Security card, life insurance policies, will, military discharge papers, medical alerts, names and addresses of your physicians, immunization records, other important medical information, including allergies, deeds, and titles or bills of sale of particularly valuable property such as fine jewelry. How will your attorney in fact or executor find your important papers?

CareerBuilder Ad

While watching the Super Bowl every year, I attempt to watch the ads, as they can add so much fun to the event.  Of course, the operative word in the previous sentence is ‘can‘.  We all know that some of the ads, costing millions of dollars, totally miss the mark.

This ad was played and I had missed it.  My company places ads on CareerBuilder so I thought I’d check it out.  Cute!  Very cute!  Or do you think it is a bit corny?

Let me know what you think.

Do The Right Thing

Do the right thing.  A great expression and simple directive.

Some of us live by ‘do the right thing‘.  But exactly what is ‘the right thing‘?

Have you ever encountered someone in your life, either business or personal, whom you observed did not operate that way?  It could be clear to most people that the person acts without integrity.  With apparently no conscience about his actions and fallout to others.

How do you handle that?  How do you deal with people like that?  How can you comprehend people who are either mean-spirited, selfish or outright vicious?

There may be some comfort in the expression ‘Time will either promote you or expose you’, but at the time we are the brunt of someone’s nastiness, it’s hard to remember that.

We take a deep breath, remember the above concept and move on.  Life is too short to allow distractions like this.

Still, we have our integrity and we will do the right thing, no matter what.  Too bad some people don’t know that even means!

What Is Happiness?

A while back I posted this and thought it was worth re-posting.  Let me know what your thoughts are on this.

_______________________________

What is your definition of happiness?  What do you think of when you see this word?

Would you not agree that our definition of happiness is certainly tied to our age, our state of emotional well-being, our economic state at any given time.

If you see a young child bubbling over with laughter as she is playing with a puppy or navigating her way through an ice cream cone…you know that child is experiencing happiness to the nth degree…

As we experience life and learn about all that is available to us and all the roadblocks that seem to be in our way to get those things, the simple things no longer bring us the same level of happiness.  Too bad for us.

How can we get back that feeling of happiness that we experienced so long ago?  Think about this… How much less stress would we be feeling if we could do this and actually did it?

Here’s a way to do that.  There’s a technique called anchoring.  It’s about thinking back to a time when you felt the happiness you yearn to feel now.  No matter how long ago it was, just focus on how happy you felt at that time.  Now make a fist and pull it toward your chest and anchor it to you.  Or pull your ear lobe.  Or something else you will do physically that will connect you to this feeling of happiness.  For a clear and specific guide to anchoring your feelings, check out this site.

Happiness is important to your well-being.  What do you do to make sure you have it?

What Leads To Success?

This three minute video in entitled:  Success: Richard St. John.  It’s from a TED conference a number of years ago and the information is still relevant today.  There is some language I’m not crazy about in one of the slides, and I would hope you would move beyond that quickly if it is not to your liking.  The basic content here is impactful.

After viewing this, you should have figured out what a ‘TEDster’ is.  He uses this term throughout the presentation.

Let me know what you liked best about this.

Lumosity–Your Brain, Just Brighter

A while back I wrote a blog about Lumosity.  I feel it’s worth writing about again and including a few videos to explain it a little more.  If you want to read the previous post, check the archives for December 6, 2011.

As I’ve explored Lumosity a bit further, it is something for all ages.  If you are considering it or have children or grandchildren, you might want to check out these videos that give you additional information about Lumosity.

Well, I’ve been on the Lumosity email list for the past couple months.  Something intrigued me to open the most recent email and that is how I have been re-excited about Lumosity.  I just joined!  Yup!  One year membership.

By the way, the email came through on 2/19/12 and announced a sale of 25% off for 3 days.  I got my year’s membership for just under $60.  I’m excited about getting started and making Lumosity a routine in my day.

What about you?  Are you intrigued?  I’d enjoy hearing from you about it.
