Moving Forward

The term moving forward, has so many connotations.  It could be said that it is an overused phrase.

But it’s such a great phrase.  We like it because first of all it implies movement. Movement is a good thing.  Secondly, it implies going in a forward direction, as opposed to being static or going backwards.  Forward is a good thing.

Yesterday’s post was about the power of forgiveness.  When I learned about this power and was able to use it in a practical situation in my life, I had a feeling of strength, knowing I was in control of me and my thoughts and feelings.  I understood the concept I’d read about.  And this concept of forgiveness is what allows us to move forward in our life.

We need to forgive the ‘offending person’, not to help that person, but to heal ourselves.  When you forgive that person in your own way, you heal.  You are doing it for you.  The other person has no idea of what is going on within you. In fact, they probably are not even aware of anything they’ve done to create the anxiety you’ve been experiencing about it all this time.  The key is that you forgive the offending party to help yourself move forward.

Let me give you a practical example that most people will resonate with.  In the big picture of life, this example is pretty trivial.  Let’s address the bad driver situations that we encounter out of the blue, without warning.  How do you react when someone does something on the road, affecting your ability to execute the operation of your vehicle to the extent that you intended… a.k.a…. They cut you off!  So how do you react?

Ahh!!!  The perfect time to use the techniques of forgiveness and moving forward.  Are you aware that the driver who cuts you off, goes merrily along his/her way and thinks nothing further about it!?  And how many people allow something like this to color their next hour of drive time, family time, work time or whatever?  Why!?  Do you think that person even cares?

Sometimes we experience a more traumatic situation and we can get caught up in feeling we’ve been wronged by someone else.  We get so caught up and stuck on this, that it affects our very being.  It colors everything in our life.  It affects decisions and choices we make that impact our life.  And these decisions can impact our life in a major way.

It’s not easy to take a step back and look at who we’re really hurting by this.  It’s not anyone but ourselves.  It is so important to do what we need to do for ourselves.  We’ve all heard the expression, ‘Life is too short to _________________’.  We could fill in the blank with anything, but in this case the phrase would be, ‘Life is too short to carry the burden of feeling hurt by another’.  And because of this, we need to forgive and move forward, for us.

What about you.  Let us know what your experiences about this have been.

Forgiveness

A number of years ago I’d read an in-depth explanation of the concept of forgiveness.  In this part of the book the author explained why it is in our best interests to forgive someone whom we feel has wronged us.

A few years later, I experienced a major emotional assault in the workplace, by a boss/friend and I was totally taken aback!  The event caused me to leave where I was working at the time.  After about six months of being totally absorbed and devastated by how she had hurt me, something triggered my memory of what I’d read about forgiveness.

As I processed all aspects of the event and fit the pieces together, relative to what I’d read about the importance of forgiveness, I experienced something fascinating.  I decided that I needed to forgive her.  In a few short moments I was overtaken by a feeling of calmness.  I still remember this experience today and how wonderful it felt to have the weight lifted from my being.  All the negative feelings I’d been experiencing for about six months or so, just left me.  Gone!

Recently something triggered the memory of all of this.  It is something I’ve not thought of in quite a while.  That experience was extremely powerful.  Amazingly, about a couple years later I encountered this person in my new workplace… my space.  And, amazingly enough, I realized I felt o.k. about it all.  I realized that what I’d learned a couple years earlier was still with me.  I had no ill-feelings for this woman.  Amazing!

Actually part of what I’d read about the benefits of forgiveness, included another concept.  The concept that people appear in our lives in certain roles for a reason.  Perhaps the person who comes into our life and has a huge traumatic impact on us, is there to help us learn a concept, like maybe forgiveness.

That may or may not resonate with you, but it has had an impact on my life.  That concept has helped me look at various people and situations differently than I might have in the past.  I do believe we encounter people and situations in our life that are the instruments by which we learn a life lesson.  Challenge:  take a deep breath and figure out the lesson in each challenging situation.

What are your thoughts and/or experiences with this type of thing?  I’d love to get your responses.

Well…  I think I learn something new almost everyday!  Now isn’t that a great concept.

Recently I saw information on the InSights Group blog about AddThis and some statistics about social media at this point.

I delved into this to learn more about AddThis and get a handle on what, exactly it is and does.  Well, this video will give you the information.  It might be helpful for your business blog or website.  Then again, maybe you already know about this.

In any case, I wanted to share this with our readers, as I found it interesting and have set it up for my blog.

Well, now you can share us with your world!  Appreciate it!

Cute John Lewis Christmas Ad

Actually when I found this cute John Lewis Christmas advertisement on YouTube, I was unfamiliar with John Lewis.  Turns out it is a retail department store in the U.K.  Perhaps some of you knew this.  It’s been a while since I’ve been in the U.K. and it was unfamiliar to me!

This ad is really so sweet, and I’m sure many will relate to it, either because of remembering how your own children were and maybe now the grandchildren.  Enjoy!

What is your favorite story or memory involving a young child in your life and their anticipation of Christmas?  Would love to hear it.
