Making room and space happens when we get rid of the old things.
When was the last time you cleaned out your closets? For instance, your clothes closet. Now, I am not referring to changing the seasonal clothes from closet to closet and vacuuming the dust balls. I’m talking about checking over your things that haven’t been worn in years. Maybe they don’t fit. Maybe they’re not the style you like anymore, or aren’t in style anymore. Maybe they don’t fit your current lifestyle or career. Whatever the reason, it’s a good thing to do this every-so-often.
Cleaning, purging and getting rid of stuff can be cathartic! On a personal note, recently I took the time to attack the master bedroom closet. Wow! It was a big job! Lots of stuff to decide to purge! Great feeling of openness as the closet became decluttered and organized. I wouldn’t say I’m a pack rat by anyone’s definition of that term. I would say that my clothes are so classic for the most part, that you could go into a lot of stores and find similar-looking things today.
This is probably why I have held onto some of these things for so long. And I mean so long. I can remember wearing some of the blouses in my early real estate years when I wore lots of skirts, blazers, shirts and heels on a daily basis. Well, those days are long gone.
To get me to decide it was time to let go, I consciously thought about someone who would enjoy wearing this or that item of clothing, shoes or whatever, more than I could justify leaving it unworn in my closet.
Have you ever just left stuff hang in your closet because you are thinking that someday you will wear it? That’s what I thought. And I had to tell myself that this is just not going to happen.
Yes, making room happens when you let the old stuff go.
When was the last time you did that?
